Visakhapatnam, Aug 28 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized an Eicher containerised truck along with cannabis (ganja) at NAD junction in the city, DRI said in a statement here on Wednesday.
Based on specific intelligence that prohibited narcotic drugs were being illegally transported, the officers from DRI, Visakhapatnam Regional Unit launched an operation in the early hours on Tuesday and intercepted the truck coming from Gajuwaka (Chennai-Srikakulam Highway) near NAD Junction.
The officials found 1,015 kg of cannabis (ganja) — a narcotic drug, packed in 365 brown coloured packets in the false partition near the driver cabin side of the vehicle.
The value of seized ganja in the grey market would be around Rs 1,52,25,000.
The said narcotic drug has been seized under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The driver of the vehicle was apprehended and further investigation in the case is under progress.
